Project 365: Day 1

It's no secret that I love photography and I do believe a picture is worth a thousand words.  As my kids have been getting older I feel as if each year goes by quicker and quicker.  As I look back at 2011 I find myself asking where the time went and how have we spent the time that passed?  I've done a decent job of documenting the bigger events over the past year; birthdays, vacations, outings, etc... But I have definitely missed all the day to day activities of our life.  The reality is that's it's those small, seemingly insignificant routines of our life that make up the web of our family.  So, for 2012 I've decided to give Project 365 a try - take one photo every day for one year in an attempt to capture all those bits and pieces of our life that usually get skipped over.  A year long photo journal is a huge undertaking for me, but my family is cheering me one.  Hopefully between the 7 of us we'll be able to accomplish this very big goal.

Photo Friday - Polka Dots & Stripes Please

I have these moments as  a mom when I can really see my kids.  It's a moment where you look beyond what's on the external to find the sweet innocence of childhood inside of them.  Ironically, sometimes it's what's on the outside that draws me to see who they really are on the inside.  This week I had a moment like that when my daughter walked out for the bus wearing the above assemble.  It's like she was screaming at me, "Mom, look, I'm such a little girl!  Isn't this awesome!"  I love that she is my little girl and that she loves polka dots, stripes, bright colors and funky combinations.  She's confident in who she is and I love that about her.

The nest will be quiet...

After being a mom for the past 11.5 years, one thing has rung very true:  they grow up fast!  It feels like the seasons fly by and I'm left with this confused feeling of sadness for the time that has passed combined with excitement for what the new year has to bring.  That is exactly how I felt today sending my kids off to school.  The nest will now be quiet for a few hours each day...
